01.03.2013 Eni announces huge gas discovery
One of the oil and gas online publications has confirmed that Eni have made a successful gas discovery in Mozambique.
A huge natural gas discovery within the Mamba Complex in Area 4, at the Coral 3 delineation well, offshore Mozambique was announced by Eni yesterday.
This is a significant new exploration discovery that highlights Eni commitment to maximise the potential of this massive gas reserve base.
The drilling operations took place about 65 kilometres off the Cabo Delgabo coast and reached a total depth of 5,270 meters by drilling into 2,035 of water. The discovery has added 6 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas, taking the full potential of the Mamba Complex to 75 tcf of gas in place.
After this discovery, the existence of hydraulic communications with the reservoir Coral 1, Coral 2 and Coral 3 is proved. Therefore, it is now believed that each well will provide higher production rate in the upcoming exploration operations.
Eni plans to drill at least two further wells to maximise the full potential of the complex. Eni is the main operator drilling in Area 4 with a 70 percent participating interest. Other partners are Galp Energia, KOGAS and ENH with a 10 percent participating interest each.
